Heavy Industry Logistics Sponsors Jeepers Creepers at Rhino Charge 2024

Jun 18, 2024 | Latest Updates, News

This is Heavy Industry Logistics’ (HiLOG) second year at Rhino Charge, and we are proud to have participated in the 2024 event as the main sponsor of Car Number 27 – Jeepers Creepers.

From their debut entrance to the Charge back in 2021, Jeepers Creepers has remained a special vehicle, standing out in the field of 64 competing vehicles for its historical significance. Described by the Rhino Charge team as a ‘whimsical ride,’ the Willys Jeep, officially known as the Willys MB, is an iconic American military vehicle that played a crucial role during World War II. Designed for versatility and durability, it was named after the manufacturer Willys-Overland. The Willys Jeep has become a cultural icon, representing freedom and adventure, making it an ideal vehicle for this event. Fun fact: the Willys MB was the lightest and smallest vehicle on the course – a tiny car that looks like it could be lifted by the team themselves.

Small but Mighty!

This historic vehicle, manned by the team ably led by Richard Hooper, successfully completed all 13 stages within the time allowance, finishing 34th out of 64 competitors. To put this achievement into perspective, 12 cars were unable to complete this demanding course.

The Rhino Charge is renowned for its challenging course, which tests the durability of vehicles and the skill of drivers. The team’s preparation and resilience were evident as they navigated the rugged landscapes and overcame numerous obstacles.

While this is super impressive, the most impressive thing about the Jeepers Creepers team is that they raised Ksh 1,217,448 (US$ 9,412) for the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust, contributing to the overall funds raised of Ksh 325,856,094 (US$ 2,518,944).

About Rhino Ark Charitable Trust

Rhino Ark is a charitable trust, founded in 1988 in response to the severe poaching crisis threatening Kenya’s Black Rhino population in the Aberdare ecosystem. Initially aimed at building a fence along sections of the Aberdare National Park’s Eastern Salient to protect rhinos, the project evolved to encompass the entire Aberdare Conservation Area. The fence completed in 2009 has significantly improved relations between wildlife and farmers, reducing crop destruction and enhancing community safety. Rhino Ark’s mission has expanded to include sustainable conservation efforts for other critical mountain forest ecosystems, with current projects focusing on Mount Kenya and Mau Mount Eburu.

From Start to Finish: HiLOG’s Logistics Support

As sponsors of team Jeepers Creepers, we contributed by decorating the vehicle and camp with our logo and branding! More importantly, we provided a financial donation to assist with the purchase of the final items needed to fully equip the car. Additionally, we supplied a double cab support vehicle and driver to ensure the team had all the necessary resources and assistance throughout the event, as well as other logistical support, including camp provisions. Managing logistics in challenging environments is our expertise, and it was a pleasure to support this team in their efforts.

We extend our congratulations to all the team’s supporters, sponsors, and the dedicated team members who made this achievement possible. We look forward to doing it again next year!
